I just started learning Japanese four weeks ago and it's so exciting to write my first blog post all in hiragana! It's amazing to see my improvement every day and hopefully I will be able to converse in Japanese with native speakers next year~ So I'm a second-year law student and will be graduating soon in 2018. Before officially ending my long-lasting career as a student, I'd like to grasp my last chance to study abroad next year. Columbia law school has a great exchange program with Waseda University in Tokyo and I think it's a great place to spend a semester at during my third year in law school.
Practically-speaking, my long-term career goal is to practice law in the greater Asia region. So a semester in Tokyo and some exposure to Japanese law will definitely be beneficial to my career development. Also, my father studied abroad in Tokyo when he was young and worked for a Japanese company for over a decade, so I'd love to spend some time in Tokyo to revisit my father's path. And culturally-speaking, it's simply impossible to resist the great food and unique culture that Japan provides. So here I am, trying to pick up Japanese one year before my planned semester abroad in Tokyo. I will try as hard as I can to improve my Japanese with as little time as I have so that I will be able to survive in Japan, and possibly make some Japanese friends ^^!
がんばって!!!
